Good KAWAII pink loving anime:

Higurashi, Gantz, Bezerk, Tsukihime, Akira, Evangelion, Elfen Lied, Graveyard of the Fireflies(Not Serie, Movie), Hellsing.

Gore, Blood, Violence Anime etc:

Tengen Toppa Guren Lagan: A Show about mech that fight stuff, I believe. You get the drill. (Haven't watched)
Death Note: A Show about a guy who get a book that kill people. Swimming lessons included.
Code Geass: A Show about terrorism and a guy who can control people mind. Diving lessons included.
Strike Witches: A Show about girls in panties who resemble old planes of the second war. (Haven't watched)
Lucky Star: I should not need to talk about this one. ( Haven't watched.)
Get Backers: Show about two fighters that now work taking back things that people lost or has been stolen, didn't like it much.
Rozen Maiden: Anime about dolls.  ( Haven't watched.)
Shakugan no Shana: Dunno, heard it was good.  ( Haven't watched.)
Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu: Anime about God and Aliens. 
Zero no Tsukaima: Anime about mages, fanservice included.  ( Haven't watched.)
Spice & Wolf: Macro Economics.  ( Haven't watched.)
Azumanga Daioh: Anime about school girls and crazy situations. 

You can also watch some anime styled cartoons such as Shaolin Showdown and Avatar.

3J have you watched all of the Ghibli movies? They're all good, but not all released in North America.

Most people have seen Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away since those were massively released. Try the lesser known Nausicaa Valley the Wind, Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday ^^

whatever you watch, make sure it doesn't have merchandise currently being sold in Hot Topics across the nation. That alone guarantees it will be a terrible waste of time.

Eh, Since you didn't really mention a genre i'll just recomend my faves,(I'll try like 1 per genre, pick whichever sounds interesting )

Movies:(I highly recomend watching a few movies, as they are short and usually damn awesome)
Spirited away
Howl's moving castle
Highlander - The search for vengence
5 centermeters per second
Series:
Toradora! - My favorite romance anime, up to ep 23/25 so far btw.
Death note - As parameters said, its about a guy with a book that can kill people, its damn awesome.
Zero no Tsukaima - I just started watching this, it has some fanservice and cool magics
Shakugan no Shana - Purely awesome 0.0, best of it's genre, this is probably my all time fave anime.
Haruhi - Great anime, Basically everyone trying to make a god(who doesnt know they are a god) not bored, Also if you do watch it check out Haruhi-chan on youtube
Eureka Seven - Best mecha anime I've seen.
Elfen lied - I just started watching this to, and it's awesome - though i heard its quite bloody.

My fave would be shakugan no shana or haruhi <3

Also, if you ever do watch Ikki / Tenjou. Note they have alot of ecchi in it.
